The Rule of Radical Endurance

The Rule of Radical Endurance

Sermon Series: Radical Rules for Developing Spiritual Roots (Part 9 of 9)
Orginally Aired: Sunday, January 24, 2021

Good Morning Connect people!  Here’s a question for you: Have you ever been a runner?  I don’t mean just running around your home as kid or running after your kids as an adult.  I mean a runner for exercise or sports.  Some people actually enjoy running.  (Imagine that!) Others run just to “stay in shape.” I remember when I was in high school and somewhat of an “athlete” and I was involved in a summer workout called “two-a-days.”  Two-a-days meant that you had to go through a grueling, hot work-out twice a day in the sweltering Georgia sun with the temperature sometimes exceeding 100 degrees. But the purpose of this hellish experience was to improve our overall team endurance and nonstop running was a central aspect of the experience.

The Bible speaks of another kind of running that produces endurance. Hebrews puts it this way, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us RUN WITH ENDURANCE the race God has set before us.” Hebrews 12:1 (NLT) The writer speaks of the Christian life as “a race”, not a sprint but more of a marathon.  Unfortunately, it is a race that will include many setbacks, disappointments, and pain along the way. In such a race it is easy to feel more like a “chump” than a “champ.”

Please join us this Sunday January 24th at 11 AM (PST) on our YouTube channel right here: https://youtu.be/lkV8uCtRQVE  . This will be our last message in RADICAL RULES FOR DEVELOPING SPIRITUAL ROOTS SERIES and is titled “THE RULE OF RADICAL ENDURANCE.”
